WHY THE FOUNDATION

Schools Support International Foundation was formed due to degrades and long-time neglect of facilities and standard of public schools in Nigeria. The foundation is initiated to give public schools students a better chance to learn in an environment that is conducive, using modern learning facilities, thereby becoming a better person in the society.

Apart from the standard of facilities in public school, there are many children of school age who cannot secure a place in public schools due to space constraint, and whose parent could not avoid a private school. The foundation bigger vision is to build new public schools and campuses in communities to comprehend the existing ones and provide more space for new intakes.

We had found out that most of the public schools we have today had been built in the 70s and 80s and some even in the colonial era with new classroom blocks added to some schools. Increasing the standard of schools is not just about adding classrooms to schools that had been built long time ago, presently, schools designs had changed all over the world in relation to the master plan of schools, classrooms layout and provision of learning and other facilities. Most of the existing schools we had now needs complete regeneration from the re-designing of its master plan to its infrastructures (classrooms, toilets, landscapes, sport facilities, etc), to fit into what is obtainable in the world.

Part of our mission is to pick a particular public school and carry out feasibility studies to prepare a blue print of regeneration of such school into a model school. The master plan and structures of such school will be re-design, and new facilities needed will be included, this is different from just building classrooms everywhere without a master plan. The upgrading will be done in phases not disturbing the flow of study during term time.

Schools Support International Foundation will also provide learning and welfare materials to students (books, pens, biros, pencils, bags, water bottles, etc.), trainings and career developments, excursions and tours, scholarships and general supports to public schools.

“In the developed world, most children from the middle class and those who are less privilege attend public schools with facilities more than many of our so called private schools. Parents are not under pressure to pay school fees like what we have here in Nigeria and Africa. The most challenging aspect is children of school age not finding a place to start school due to non availability of space in public schools. I remembered the free education during Jakande’s era, where books and writing materials are distributed freely. I look at what we have around, seeing everyone that is privilege, competing for private schools to send their children to, what about the less privilege, we can’t afford to leave them, because some of us had attended public schools in one way or the other and today we are doing well. We at schools support international foundation took up this challenge to play our part in transforming our public schools to international standards so that many children and youths will be privilege to have quality education.” Quote from the founder and worldwide coordinator.
